Our 15 year old son wants to learn to drive a motorcycle. I am afraid

Our 15 year old son wants to learn to drive a motorcycle. I am afraid for him to get on one and have no idea how to train him to drive it correctly. I asked my ex-husband to check into some driving lessons prices and they are very expensive to send him to learn. Robert has no idea how to drive one either and no one we know has a motorcycle that would want to take him on and teach him.
Tolet him drive himself to school the travel would be 8 miles one way on a bike I can't teach him how to drive. We were trying to figure out what to do next when a friend of his a couple of years older than John, decided he didn’t want his small scooter anymore and would teach him how to drive it.
I was grateful of course, but decided before he took the wheel of anything he needed some practical training. I found an online site he could take a course and as he passed several of the online test chapters; I told him he could begin the task of learning to driving that scooter. I knew we would have a higher insurance rate for a bike, but if he was willing to pay for it, he could drive one.
As he progressed with the online test site; we would travel the short distance to the vacant lot after school. I wanted Larry to see if he really wanted to drive a bike instead of an automobile. He passed all of his online test site exams I sent him to finish and before we both knew it, it was time to start learning to drive this scooter.
John was very patient with him, and I felt comfortable after several sessions, to let John pick him up from school and travel with him to the lot to keep the driving lessons going and fresh in Larry's mind. One afternoon I drove out to the lot to see how Larry was doing and he was on the scooter by himself and was very steady on it.
Just goes to show if your persistent you will find a way to get something done, even when there doesn't seem to be a way to get it done at all.

My son is 15 too and wants a motorcycle. He doesn't have a dime to his name and i refuse to support this. I think they are dangerous and he's too immature to ride a motorcyle. I'm trying to talk him out of it - needless to say, he isn't real happy w/me right now and says he's been wanting one since he was 5 (which is true) - but i cannot consider myself a good parent if i allow this...
Dear Judith, thank you for your comment. I agree - often children can be very unreasonable.
I myself lost both legs in a scooter accident - however, I now ride a trike. It is something to consider!
