Lee felt it was about time he got some independence, he was the laughi

Lee felt it was about time he got some independence, he was the laughing stock of his college with his mom driving him to all his classes, he really wanted to get a motor of his own. His old rusty bike was no less embarrassing, he had had it for many years and the amount of times he had mended the punctures in the tyre, the inner tube looked more like a patchwork quilt. He decided to take up his dads offer to pay for driving lessons, as he could not afford them being a student and after paying his house keeping money.
His first lesson was a disaster, he almost ran over some young girl crossing the road on her bike and the amount of verbal abuse he received from her mom could have turned the air blue. Then at the traffic lights some jack ass in some burned out excuse for a motor car cut him up. It just wasn't his day!
For the next few weeks as Lee continued his weekly lessons with his dad he continued to get to classes at he college by begging lifts from his mom or squeaking his way in on his old bike. Although his motor skills were improving he would have to wait a few weeks before he could take his test, then a lot longer before he could afford to get a car of his own.
Eventually the day came of his practical test, he had passed his theory test the week before with flying colours and was quite confident that his practical test would follow suit. The instructor did not say much as they drove along. He just barked the occasional last minute order at him. While on the test a scraggy looking dog ran out in front of him and he had to emergency stop. He was sure he would fail. As it turned out the instructor was so impressed that Lee had used his intuitive that he passed him. But the best was yet to come.
When Lee arrived home and broke the good news to his parents they said they would take him out for a meal to celebrate. Only it turned out that they were actually taking him to buy a car. Only a second hand run around but who cared, it was his own car, his own independence.
After classes the next dayone of his mates approached him, he said that he envied the relationship that Lee had with his parents and that the reason a lot of the guys there bullied him over him having to get lifts from his mom was because they were jealous of the fact his parents were still willing to do so much for him. Many of them were struggling to put food on the table as well as pay for the running of their cars. As Lee drove home that afternoon he stopped off at the local florist, he bought his mom a big bouquet of flowers. For the first time in his life he realised that his parents were not just a source of embarrassment but of how special they were.
