The letter that Alison's daughter had brought home filled her with dread. It was leave your car at home week. This meant that all children had to come to school on foot, roller skates, a scooter or riding a bike and meant that Alison would have to walk with her. She thought to herself maybe no one would notice if she let her daughter ride pillion on her husbands motorcycle that would count, after all it only had two wheels rather than four and a much smaller engine, however she knew that this would defeat the object of getting children healthy and helping the environment. Alison knew that the school would try and get her involved in volunteering for the moms race at the sports day, or running one of the stalls at the summer fete. At least in the car she could quickly drop off her daughter Rebbecca and drive off quickly being accosted by any member of the Parent teacher association. The story behind it was that she used to be very close to one of the members on the association and when they fell out after she had borrowed Alison's car and crashed it, then refusing to pay for repairs, she turned sour and began spreading vicious rumours about her. Rebbecca had come home from school many times in tears, and so as not to rise to the accusations Alison decided it was best to stay away from the school altogether, but being the only all girls school in the area and having the best standards in education and results she decided it was not the best idea to take Rebbecca from the school she had been at for 4 years. But couldn't help thinking that her plan of using her husbands motorcycle still looked appealing.

The following week Alison decided to ride to school on her bike alongside her daughter, that way she could make a quick escape after dropping her daughter to school. She rode along begrudgingly looking at the motorists driving past in their own blissful world wishing there was some way she could get out of it. The rain was pouring and Alison felt like a drowned rat, she was so lost in her own thoughts that she did not notice the hire a skip van in front of her, as her daughter had sped ahead to catch up with a schoolfriend she was not there to warn her either. Alison went straight over the handlebars and into the skip! How embarrassing! A man on a motorcycle stopped to help her out and one of the other mothersalso on a bikefrom the school took Rebbecca in with her daughter. Her leg was so painful she found she could not stand on it. An ambulance was called and she was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken leg. Once there it was confirmed. She spent the rest of the week on the sofa with plaster from top to bottom of her leg. Her husband rallied round her and took the week off work as well as taking Rebbecca to school. Alison had to smile to herself, total bed-rest meant that she missed all of the health week at school as well as the sports day and summer fete. She thought of what her old gran used to say "be careful what you wish for...you just might get it".
