The importance of finding the best driving instructor for the money is something that cannot be understated. I found this out the hard way, when I enrolled in whichever school I found in the phonebook. I, of course, had no idea that the competency of one driving instructor compared to the next could be so different. It seems they must all have similar education, but perhaps some issues involved in teacher are more instinctual than they are learned. At least this is my working theory. The first driving instructor I had was an absolute moron, to tell the absolute truth. I would never want to accuse anyone of being stupid, as genes are something that we have no control over. However, it seemed that this man had destroyed with drugs or alcohol whatever smart genes he had been born with. I still cannot even say with certainty if he was even aware of the importance of the material he was dealing with. The whole thing seemed to be a joke to him, and apart from just handing us the answers to possible test questions he also treated our actual driving lessons as a joyride.

When I went on my driving practice test with him, he demanded that we stop for cigarettes, then coffee, and then to meet his girlfriend for 30 minutes while I waited in the car. I have yet to figure out what I learned during that 30 minutes of waiting, although I paid for the time. That was the point that I approached the company and demanded to be re-assigned to a different driving instructor. The difference was astounding. This guy was spot on, and I learned more than I ever could have hoped to know about driving. Furthermore, I learned not only about driving a car but also about driving a motorcycle and also a scooter. We were able to go into these areas of instruction because we had some time left over due to the efficiency of his teaching. Needless to say, he also didn't offer us a free ride by offering us answers to possible test questions. When thinking back, perhaps its because of instructors like the first one that I had that there are so many horrible drivers in the world. I mean, you seriously could get away with knowing virtually nothing about driving or the law in order to pass the test if someone offers the answers.
